Todd made an important point in his latest response to May The Side With The Highest Collective I.Q. Win, when he said, “As ludicrous as it is to have to defend the Constitution against these fools, I feel that we do need to do it to keep them from pushing anything else.” He was talking about protecting science from evangelical censorship, but I think it also applies to our nation’s president. Just like an evangelist, Mr. Bush appears to storm through projects focusing only on what he believes to be true, trusting to friendship and networking, ignoring facts and over-arching responsibilities.
Rob Kall warns the trend toward appointing inept government officials will only get worse. Have you counted the number of competent, experienced people who resigned before George W. Bush took office? Have you counted the number of inept, inexperienced people who are under investigation or have left in disgrace during George W. Bush’s tenure? Neither have the statisticians, but people are keeping track of the hundreds of horrible decisions he has made over the years. A company run like this would have gone bankrupt and out of business within the first year, which is not surprising given Bush’s record in the private business sector.
I have hesitated to support impeachment, for two reasons. First, do we really want Vice President Dick Cheney to take over? Second, it will constitute a horrendous battle given the current predominantly Republican congress. Not to mention that impeachment is a nationwide embarrassment. However, I feel we no longer have any other recourse; George W. Bush is destroying the very fabric of our nation. He must be impeached, but it will take every Democrat and Independent in this country working together to make it happen.
Perhaps there is hope in yesterday’s indictment of US House Majority Leader Tom DeLay. Despite his unsupported reputation as a vindictive witch-hunter, Texas District Attorney Ronnie Earle may be the only Democrat with enough gumption to face these power hungry, business tycoon, good ole boy, Republicans. Dare we encourage another Texan to run for President? Would he be willing? Could we bring ourselves to vote for a Texan after everything that has happened?
