Why Bu$h Wage$ War

Countless examples from George W. Bush’s record show that he favors big profits today over favorable consequences for tomorrow.

He refused to sign the Kyoto accords and this week refused to have the U.S. so much as participate in Canadian-sponsored talks about those accords. His so-called “Clean Air Act” notoriously allows polluters to pollute even more.

As he is doing with the national deficit, instead of dealing responsibly with a major problem today, he is opting for relative ease right now for him at the expense of our communal future.

He is not even taking a serious look at problems caused by greenhouse gas emissions; as pointed out by Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., “They’re so tied in with the oil and coal industry, they’re still arguing global warming is a hoax. It’s like the Flat Earth Society.”

Take by way of another example Bush’s handling of the Louisiana wetlands. Despite environmentalists’ warnings of dire consequences, Bush allowed development of those wetlands. We have seen the results.

Now ask yourself; would a man so unmindful of major environmental concerns and the future impact of a gargantuan national deficit have scruples about starting a war because he and his cronies stood to profit from that war?

The salient difference between Randy Cunningham taking bribes from military contractors, and Bush and Cheney’s involvement in starting and continuing the Iraq war, is that Cunningham has been held accountable for his crimes.
